Description

This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

The T-33 Shooting Star is a jet trainer aircraft mainly operated by the U.S. Air Force since 1948, after World War II. It was also used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and was a familiar aircraft in the skies of Japan. Its engine is an Allison J33-A-35 centrifugal turbojet engine. The maximum speed without chip tanks or guide weapons was Mach 0.8. It adopted a tandem two-seater design with straight wings. By 1959, more than 6,500 of this aircraft had been produced, making it the best-selling machine used in more than 30 countries around the world. It was the first jet aircraft to be produced under license in Japan after the war.

This 1/72-scale model kit from Platz reproduces the T-33A, a jet trainer operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, in particular the 221st aircraft, which was specially equipped with a long pitot tube in the nose for measurement; it was known as the T-33A Kai. This kit has easy-to-assemble parts, and the aircraft's shape and straight wings are accurately reproduced. The delicately expressed panel lines also heighten the sense of realism. The air brake can be assembled opened or closed; the landing gear is delicately reproduced, including their storage compartment. A metal pitot tube and other metal parts are also included to give the model a sharp finish. Decals are included for the markings of Unit 221, which was used by the Flight Development Experiment Group at Gifu Air Base, and is currently on display at the Gifu Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum.
