"THE CROSSING"

The steamer Taiping was a type of Great Lakes passenger-freighter built at the Manitowoc shipyards in the USA. It was launched in 1920 with a displacement of 2,050 tons. During WWII, it was used as a short supply ship for the U.S forces. On July 14th, 1948, it was converted into a passenger ship by the Shanghai Zhonglian Company. It was rated for 508 passengers, and travelled between Shanghai and Keelung. 

There is no extant film of the steamer Taiping. In the John Woo movie "The Crossing," which hit the big screen in 2014, film stars from China, Korea and Japan play three couples of different backgrounds experiencing partings and reunions over half a century during the story. The steamer Taiping that connected these three couples is replicated here in 1/150 scale.

This 1/150 scale plastic model kit of the Steamer Taiping from "The Crossing" measures 535mm in length, 88mm in width, and 208mm in height (from the bottom of the ship to the top of its mast). The magnificence of the ship is recreated by easy-to-assemble pre-colored parts; the model is designed to be cement-free for easy assembly. A lighting system is provided to simulate the scenes of the brilliantly illuminated steamer Taiping. The packaging is uniquely designed as a “book,” with stereograms being used to make the instruction manual special and exquisite. Display stand included.
