This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.
Takom continues the cavalcade of fantastic World War I tanks with this amazingly accurate and detailed release of one of the most popular tanks of the war, the Mark A Whippet Medium Tank!
Armed only with four Hotchkiss .303 machine guns, the 14-ton Whippet was a "high-speed" design that could traverse the battlefield at 8 mph (13 kph), which was a significant improvement over the Mark IV Heavy Tank, which could only manage about 4 MPH (6.4 kph), half the speed of the Whippet. 200 Whippets were built, serving with the British, German, and Russian armies. After the war the type became Japan's very first tank when six or so were sold to Japan in 1922, serving into the 1930s.
This very special release from Takom is a Japan-only Limited Edition release, limited to 1,680 kits, but is available via HobbyLink Japan to the world! The base Whippet kit features moving wheels, super easy-to-assemble snap-together indy-link tracks, PE detail parts, and decals for 8 versions, including British, German, and Russian vehicles. Other features are hatches that can be posed open or closed, and four Hotchkiss .303 machine guns.
But wait, there’s more! This is not simply the “base” Whippet model kit…that one’s coming out at a later date. This, the very first release of the Whippet from Takom, is a super-special Japan Limited Edition release, and on top of all the items included in the base kit, also includes these four additions to make the Japanese versions of the Whippet:
1. 1/35 cast resin figure of a Japanese tank commander
2. Four Japanese Type 3 Heavy Machine Guns (to be used in place of the original Hotchkiss guns)
3. Markings for two Japanese Whippets
4. Special bonus decal set for the single Mark IV Female Heavy Tank that was imported to Japan for testing (for use with the Takom Mark IV Female Heavy Tank (TKO2009), sold separately).
So, this fantastic kit includes all the parts and markings to build one of ten different versions, with markings for Japanese, British, German, and Russian Vehicles.
