Description

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

From Kitty Hawk Model comes this beautiful kit of a rather unorthodox looking fighter.  The Vought XF5U was developed during WWII with the intention of making a fighter that could take off and land from short airfields in order to fight an island-hopping campaign against the Japanese.  The prototype V-173 “Flying Pancake” was built and flew, even by famed aviator Charles Lindbergh.  This bigger militarised version, the XF5U, unfortunately never got the chance to take to the skies before the project was cancelled.  Mechanical problems and the coming of the jet age in 1947 spelled the end for this once promising design.  Two prototypes were built but only one was completed.  The structure of the aircraft was so sound they needed to bring in a wrecking ball to dismantle it.

This detailed kit of a great what might have been comes molded in grey plastic with clear parts for the canopy and nose.  Photo-etched seat belts and decals to make one of three different marking options are also included.  Don’t miss out on this chance to add a unique design to your collection today!
