Shizuoka Hobby Show 2009: Bandai Highlights
Bandai
Bandai's area was bursting with new offerings celebrating the 30th anniversary of Gundam.
Welcoming the visitors that packed the place each day were a 1/12-scale Gundam, Char's Zaku II, and mass-production Zaku II.
Helping stir the excitement were these 1/60 RX-78 Gundam and 1/35 Unicorn Gundam concept models. The 1979 first "Gundam" series and the upcoming anime adaptation of novel series "Gundam Unicorn" are at the heart of this year's GunPla offerings.
There's quite a spread of new items on the way! Let's take a look at each type.
High Grade
For this milestone anniversary, a newly configured HG Gundam kit is planned, even better than the HGUC version.
Soon to be animated in "Gundam Unicorn," Unicorn Gundam and mondo Mobile Suit Kshatriya are coming as sharp-looking kits.
After its success as a Master Grade kit, an HGUC debut is planned for Hi-Nu Gundam! The camouflage of its shield will be created through HG parts.
Announced just before the event began was this HGUC Eye-Zack. Even with that huge head, it can stand without support!
This HCUC Jegan was unveiled by Bandai at the show. Watch for it in August!
Master Grade
Also featured was an impressive gathering of First Gundam MG models!
Formally announced at the show was this MG Guntank. It'll finally be possible to re-create the "V-Sakusen" in MG form! (No motor, though...darn...)
Based on the Zaku Ver. 2.0, here comes the mighty--and mightily posable--Gouf Ver. 2.0!
This diorama in Bandai's area was a real eye-grabber.
And here's another MG goody in the works: Gundam Exia, from "Gundam 00"!
An MG Ignition Mode version of Gundam Exia is planned, too, boasting plated parts, two LED units, and Gundam Exia Repair parts.
