This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
After Tamiya took the armor modeling world by storm and made 1/35 the standard, they attempted to introduce a new standard for aircraft models with a series of 1/100 and 1/50 scale aircraft. While this made sense for a metric nation, 1/72 and 1/48 were already established as the dominant scales for airplanes, and Tamiya finally converted to those scales.
Tamiya has now re-released some kits from that series. This kit is the license-built Kawasaki version of the Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight, the KV-107. The kit features fine raised panel lines and marking for five different aircraft: a KV-107-II-5 of the Japanese Air Self Defense Force Rescue Squadron, a KV-107-II-3 of the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, a CH-113 of the Canadian Air Force, and HKP-4 of the Swedish Air Force and an HKP-4 of the Swedish Navy. It would also be possible to make a CH-46 by not attaching the large fuel tanks over the main landing gear pylons. Buy several and have a whole fleet of helicopters on your shelf!
