The Type 38 infantry gun type is a bolt-action rifle that served as Japan's official rifle for 40 years, from 1905 (Meiji 38) after the Russo-Japanese War, to the end of World War II. It was developed by Kijiro Nanbu, who was a subordinate of Shigeaki Arisaka. Based on its predecessor, the Model 30 rifle, it has undergone improvements based on military experience, such as simplifying the bolt structure, adding safety measures, and adding a dust cover. It was  highly evaluated by the United States, which was confronted by this firearm, and many of them went to the U.S. after the war and played an active role under the name of Arisaka Type 38.
