This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

HMS Illustrious is known for its 75mm thick armored flight deck. This increased the ships defense against the dive bombing though the number of the aircraft on the carrier was reduced (36 airplanes). The most famous battle she joined is the attack on the Italian naval base in Tarante in Nov 1940. Twenty-four Swordfish torpedo-bombers from the carrier destroyed several Italian warships. Later in the war, it fought in the Pacific. She was involved in the Kamikaze attacks but owing to her armored flight deck, there was no severe damage. As far as looking through the parts, Heller's large model (L=570mm) is of the old tooling. Molds are indistinct in this scale. The model is full-hull type. The decals for the name plate are also given for her shster ship, the HMS Victorious. Two camouflage painting patterns for both carriers each are introduced in the instruction booklet.
