This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

This scale model kit includes parts molded in grey and black plastic and includes decals. This is a full hull kit, but is water line convertible.

The design of the Imperial Japanese Navy's destroyers almost reached maturity in the Type A (Kaegro and Yugumo) class. As the new US battleships grew faster, however, more and more improvements in speed were requested and the design of the super destroyer was started. The Shimakaze was developed under such circumstances and was completed in 1943. Her name was succeeded by the Minekaze class Shimakaze, which holds the speed record among IJN destroyers -- 40.698 kn (overload power).

Living up to this name, she brought out a top speed of 40.90kn powered with a high-temperature and high-pressure steam turbine, which was the same type as the one tested by the Amatsukaze, Kagero class destroyer. Moreover, she was equipped with three newly-developed 61cm quintuple torpedo tubes and was able to fire no less than fifteen torpedoes at one time.
