Adapted from the manufacturer:
The battleship Konig was among the most illustrious ships of the Kaiser German Nayv of the World War I period. The Konig ("king") was laid down at the Imperial Shipyard in Wilhelmshaven on March 10, 1911, was launched on Jan. 3, 1913, and commissioned on Sept. 8, 1914.
The battleships of the Konig class were mighty vessels, ideally suited for North Sea conditions. The four sister ships formed the 3rd Squadron of the Open Sea Navy (Hochseeflotte). The Konig became the flagship of Rear Admiral Benke. The 3rd Squadron of battleships took part in all battle operations of the Open Sea Navy after the start of World War I. One of these sorties caused the Battle of Jutland (May 31-June 1, 1916), the greatest and fiercest sea battle of World War I. During this battle, the British battleships Warspite, Valiant and Malaya were severely damaged.
The Konig took part in the Moonsund operation at the Baltic Sea against the Russian Navy in September and October, 1917. After the armistice was signed, the German Navy was interned by alliances at Scapa-Flow, where almost all vessels, including all four Konig-class battleships, were scuttled by their cress on June 21, 1919.
This special deluxe edition full-hull kit includes wooden deck parts, generous amounts of photo-etched metal detail parts, decals, metal gun barrels and more!
