All Japan Model and Hobby Show 2017


Get ready for the 57th All Japan Model & Hobby Show! This year's event will be held September 29 to October 1 at Tokyo Big Sight, and we'll be there to bring you the scoop from the show floor! In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at some great new items that major manufacturers have announced in advance, with many now open for preorder.

Here comes the first ever Civic sports model RS release from Hasegawa, the Honda Civic RS(SB-1) 3-Door Hatchback! RS stands for "Road Sailing," and this sporty little beauty that debuted in 1974 can now be yours to build in an entirely new 1/24 scale mold.


Hasegawa never forgets their sci-fi builders, and they've got a new treat for fans of the "Macross" series with the VF‐31C Siegfried Mirage Custom Unit from "Macross Delta," featuring newly molded parts compared to their previous VF-31 releases.


Hasegawa is expanding their 1/450 scale ship series with the Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer. Featuring a new mold, this beautiful kit will allow you to enjoy all of the details of the Hyuga thanks to its large scale!


Also hitting the pavement soon from Hasegawa are new kits of the Suzuki GT380 B in 1/12 scale, and the Hitachi Construction Combined Road Roller ZC50C-5 in 1/35 scale!




Scale excitement is on the way from Aoshima, led by the debut of a sharp new line called "The Snap Kit"! Featuring new molds and parts molded in color, these 1/32-scale snap-fit kits allow anyone to build a car to be proud of. First up in November will be the Suzuki Hustler, with releases in Phoenix Red Pearl and Candy Pink Metallic, and the Toyota Prius, in Super White II and Emotional Red.


For more advanced modelers, all-newly-tooled 1/24 kits of the Toyota NCP160V Probox 2014 and Toyota NCP160V Succeed, based on 3D scans of the real cars, will be released in December.


Art by the late, great Kihachiro Ueda will grace the box of an impressive 1/700 offering of IJN Battleship Yamato, with new parts added to the already-released Musashi to create the most up-to-date realization of this iconic ship. Aoshima's popular 1/45 Diesel Locomotive DD51 will also soon be back and better than ever, with updated color specs and detail-up parts including aluminum wheels.




The next hot new kit to be released into the Real Grade lineup has been revealed! And it is none other than Johnny Ridden's Custom Zaku II in all of its red glory with a number of weapons to equip!


Hot on the heels of the MG Ver Ka ZZ Gundam releasing this month, Master Grade fans will have another new MG to look forward to with the upcoming release of the GM Sniper Custom!


Also on the way are a number of new HG kits including the Cherudim Gundam Saga TYPE.GBF from "Gundam Build Fighters" as well as the menacing-looking black Zaku I (Kycilia Zabi's Forces) and Zaku Half Cannon from "Gundam The Origin"!


Fine Molds


The A Type of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat gets a 1/72 scale release from Finemolds! This long-awaited release comes with decals for the US Navy 84th Fighting Squadron (VF - 84) "Jolly Rogers". In addition, a set of air-to-air missiles from current American military planes such as the AIM-54A/C Phoenix and the AIM-7F/M/P Sparrow will be released.


In 1/35th scale, the first commercialised version of the IJA Type 89 Medium Tank I-Go Kou will soon be released! Finemolds have taken care to replicate the medium tank's details with careful historical accuracy, and have included etching parts for the muffler covers, as well as new decals.


From Finemolds' "Ultra Precision Plastic Parts - Nano Aviation" series comes the MG15 7.92mm Machine Gun (IJN Type 1/IJA Type 98) in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Used by both Germany and Japan during WWII, it's sure to be a useful addition to many modellers' collections!




This 1/700 scale kit of IJN Battleship Yamato (Final Ver.) from Pit-Road features all new molding! The kit recreates the ship as it was seen during its final battle, with the lower port holes closed so that it wouldn't sink. Pit-Road made use of currently-available drawings and materials on the Yamato to make the kit as accurate as possible, and we can't wait to see this incredibly detailed kit for ourselves at the show!


Also on the way from Pit-Road's 1/700 scale series is their beautiful USS Battleship BB-43 Tennessee 1944 featuring new parts, a re-release of the USS Aircraft Carrier CVN-73 George Washington 2008, and a JSDF Aircraft Set (X-2 x 4/F-35A x 4/F-35B x 4 : C-2 x 2) so you can add some extra detail to your 1/700 scale ships!


Pit-Road will also be introducing a stunning resin kit of the JMSDF Destroyer DD-119 Asahi (2nd) in 1/350 scale that's not to be missed!




The long-awaited 1/35 Centurion A41 from "Girls und Panzer: der Film" arrives from Platz! Based on AFV Club's kit with a newly molded upper body, it's slated to roll into stock late this year. Also watch for a finished set of 1/35-scale Anglerfish Team members!


In addition, a new 1/72 double-seater MiG-15 UTI Soviet Air Force arrives soon, with decals for three versions. A two-piece set of the Douglas A-26 Invader attack bomber in 1/144 scale is also on the horizon, as is a two-piece set of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's RF-4E Phantom II reconnaissance aircraft in the same scale.




The sharp design of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is coming to us as a beautifuly detailed 1/24 scale kit by Tamiya! Based on a commercially available sports car, the GT3 is now a big contender in the world of racing, and it's sure to make an incredible kit.


In the 1/48 scale lineup, we have the U.S. Main Battle Tank M1A2 Abrams, which will be 20cm long when completed and features accurate detailing of the tanks elecrtonic parts. Also from their military kit series is a German Pkw.K1 Kubelwagen Type 82 (Africa Corps/Marshal Rommel) at a big 1/16 scale!


The Mad Laser will be joining Tamiya's popular Mini 4WD line this October. Featuring an impressive aerodynamic design, this MA chassis is sure to race ahead of the competition! And be on the lookout for the re-release of Tamiya's amazingly detailed 1/6 Kawasaki Z1300 Engine!




Kotobukiya has a new kit on the way for all you gamers and lovers of mecha! Coming this December is a new suit from "Super Robot Wars," the imposing Raftclans Aulun. They're also bringing back two of their beloved "Zoids" kits, the HMM Highend Master Model EZ-036 Death Stinger and Gojulas The Ogre. We look forward to seeing the new suit in person at this year's event, along with any surprises they might have in store for us!




The lineup from Wave is off to a great start with the 1/35 scale Votoms Blood Sucker ST Ver., from the Votoms OVA "The Last Red Shoulder!" This kit has been designed in collaboration with Votoms Setting Producer Koichi Inoue, so great care has been taken to reproduce specific shapes and details with the highest accuracy!


Fans of the Ma.K series will be happy to see Wave adding to its lineup with the S.A.F.S.Mk.III Type R Rapoon, a reconnaissance type Rapoon.


The Macross: VF-4 Lightning III also gets a 1/72 scale release! The VF-4 is the successor model of the VF-1, and with its sophisticated design this is definitely a kit worth waiting for! This particular kit displays the VF-4 in fighter form, and features snap-fit construction.


When it comes to ship models, Wave also has fans covered with a 1/350 scale kit of the INJ Destroyer Fuyutsuki 1945. This kit accurately recreates the characteristic shape of the Fuyutsuki, and is based on the already-released kit of the Akizuki. The precision used in the creation of this kit is sure to please!




GodHand wants to be your go-to brand in hobby tools! Among their new offerings is a handy Bit Blade, available in your choice of a flat blade set or a round blade set. Also on the way are Mini FF Board Steel--sets of stainless steel files in 6mm and 10mm widths--and Double-Sided Tape for Mini FF Board in those widths, the perfect way to securely attach a file to a board.




From Doyusha, we're excited to see their 1/700 scale kit of the US Navy Missouri BB-63! Other kits to look out for are the F-15 E Strike Eagle and F/A-18 F Super Hornet in 1/72 scale, and the glorious 1/700 scale R.M.S. Titanic featuring LED lights. Also on the way is a big 1/16 scale R/C of the America M1A1 Abrams MBT!




Airfix flies in with two newly tooled kits of British subjects! The first is the late war Hawker Sea Fury FB.II in 1/48th scale! The Hawker Sea Fury was the last piston engined fighter aircraft to be operated by the British and arguably one of the best piston engined fighter aircraft ever designed.


Also due out soon is a kit many Royal Navy fans have been waiting for, the McDonnell Douglas FG.1 Phantom in 1/72nd scale! This kit of the British version of the Phantom includes its trademark look with the raised nose, which was done to increase the angle of attack when launching from the smaller British carriers.


New variations of the Curtiss Tomahawk Mk.II in both 1/72nd and 1/48th scale are on the way as well as a 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Bomber in Mk.IV configuration!




Eduard has gone back to the drawing board to bring us an all new tooling of the famous Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-4 in 1/48th scale! This ProfiPack edition kit includes metal photo-etched detail parts, paint masks and decals to build one of five different marking options!


Also on the way is a nifty little resin kit of the GBU-43/B MOAB, the Mother Of All Bombs! Eduard also brings us new boxings of other kits such as a Weekend Edition Kit of the 1/72nd Fw 190A-8, a Limited Edition Kit of the Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib in 1/48th scale and a Weekend Edition Kit of the German WWI Fighter Aircraft Pfalz D.IIIa in 1/72nd scale!




An incredibly detailed 1/35 King Tiger tank with new late-type parts and a beautifully detailed interior is among ICM's newest items! They also have an outstanding German Sd.Kfz.261 Radio Armored Vehicle with new-mold update parts.


Well-known for their excellent figures, ICM's all-new 1/35 Russian Maxim Gun team from WWI is ready for action, and a completely new-mold set of 1/35 Turkish Infantry is also ready to debut. They also have an all-new 1/24 U.S. S.W.A.T. soldier with an amazing level of sharply sculpted detail!




Revell treats fans to a long-awaited re-release from a popular American truck series, their beloved Kenworth K-100 Aerodyne in 1/25 scale! Also on the way from their 1/25 scale lineup are the 70 Dodge Charger R/T and the 76 Ford Gran Torino!


Other Manufacturers


A number of other manufacturers are also set to release some eye-catching items! From F-toys comes a 1/72 Full Action Comet Type 12. This is the second release from the "Full Action" series, and as before, 5 pieces are included in 1 box, each with various markings!


Moebius is also displaying their kit of the 2001: A Space Odyssey Discovery! This beautiful and majestic kit has been on many people's wish lists for some time. Parts have been molded based on in-depth analysis, and both the shape and minor details have been accurately reproduced. This impressive model will measure approximately 1 meter long when complete!


A few other new releases are also on our radar! From Italeri's collaboration with World of Tanks comes the WWII Jagdpanzer IV/70(A), an exciting new release. Yellow Submarine is releasing a Mini Spot LED Sound Sensor Unit which will be great for highlighting your favorite figures. Finally, Flyhawk Model is releasing a 1/2000 scale WWII DKM German Battleship Tirpitz, which comes molded in fantastic detail despite its small size!
