The back of the ruler features a special processing to keep it from slipping on cutting mats, wood, vinyl, paper, masking tape, and other surfaces. Just put a little bit of pressure on it, and there's no worry of the ruler sliding around during use. It's made of stainless steel with a thickness of 2mm, making it nice and hefty and stable during use as well.
The special processing on the back side doesn't just help with slipping, it prevents gaps between the ruler and the object underneath, too!
