AMX-50
After the defeat of Germany in World War II, French tank research and development had long been stagnant, but when Germany surrendered, France resumed tank development and completed the ARL-44 immediately after the war's end.
However, the performance of the ARL-44 was not enough to take on the Soviet Union's new IS-3 heavy tank.
When the French Army requested the domestic munitions companies to come up with a new, more powerful tank, AMX submitted a proposal for the AMX M4.
However, this tank was thinly armored to meet the Army's initial requirements, and there were concerns about its defensive capabilities.
Therefore, the AMX-50 prototype was built with an oscillating turret developed by FAMH to reduce the weight of the turret, and instead, the armor was reinforced.
However, the heavy tank category gradually became obsolete, and development of the AMX-50 was terminated before it reached mass production.
There were several prototypes of the AMX-50, and the AMX-50(B) was the final prototype of the low-posture type.
