1/700 Scale Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Yamato (Showa 19, Operation Sho-Go 1)

The Battleship Yamato, symbol of the Combined Fleet, is back with additional armament and fittings for Operation Sho-Go 1!

This unpainted model kit requires assembly and painting. It is a 1/700 scale waterline model, excluding the hull bottom. It features a combination of the traditional "Special Series" molds and newly designed additional parts.

Kit Features:

  • Historical Accuracy: This model depicts the Yamato as it appeared in October 1944 during Operation Sho-Go 1 (Battle of Leyte Gulf).
  • Upgraded Armament: Includes modifications such as the removal of secondary guns on both sides, enhanced with additional 12.7cm twin high-angle guns, and equipped with radar.
  • Newly Designed Parts:
    • 12.7cm twin high-angle guns (Type A1 Mod 3) and Type A1 guns are now composed of four parts for improved detail, compared to the previous two parts.
    • The Type 13 radar features a truss structure with detailed engraving, including the antenna section.
    • The Type 22 radar uses a slide mold to create an open trumpet-shaped design.
    • New chrysanthemum crest for the bow.
    • Newly added parts for sidelights and life buoys, previously omitted.
    • Decals for ship name on the stern and white stripes on the mast.
    • Separate binocular parts for the bridge and anti-aircraft command center for enhanced realism.
    • Two types of seaplanes included: Zero reconnaissance seaplanes and Zero observation seaplanes.
    • Three-piece shieldless triple machine guns for easier painting and detail.
    • 26 single machine guns, previously omitted, are included.
  • Hull and Deck:
    • The hull sides and wooden deck are one-piece molded parts.
    • Late-war features such as sealed portholes are represented with raised molds.
    • Separate parts for the bow and aviation work deck.
  • Superstructure and Armament:
    • The bridge and smokestack are designed with left-right assembly.
    • The bridge's rear ladder differs from the Musashi and is accurately reproduced with dedicated parts.
    • The 15-meter rangefinder on the bridge can rotate 360 degrees after assembly.
    • The 46cm main gun turrets can rotate after assembly, and the gun barrels and mantlets are integrated with fixed elevation.
    • Fine tread patterns are engraved on the anchor deck and stern deck.
  • Aircraft and Accessories:
    • Seaplanes include Zero observation aircraft and Zero (three-seat) reconnaissance aircraft with detailed propellers and floats.
    • Major parts and hull bottom are molded in gray.

Decals:

  • Three types included:
    • One sheet with walking paths for the aviation deck, specific to the Yamato class.
    • One sheet with naval ensign and Hinomaru markings.
    • Naval ensigns in three sizes: 10 units, 6 units, and 3 units, scaled to 1/700.
    • One sheet with waterline markers, bow chrysanthemum crest, and stern ship name markings (both in gold and ship color).
