This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
VF-2 (2nd Fighter Squadron), commonly known as "Bounty Hunters," was the first F-14 squadron to be reorganized with VF-1 when the F-14A entered service. During the Vietnam War, the planes were deployed on the aircraft carrier Enterprise, and participated in the first actual combat operation to support the evacuation of Americans living in Saigon after the fall of Saigon. In the 1980s, when the Cold War was at its most tense, U.S. Navy aircraft began to be painted with a blue-gray low-visibility camouflage called countershade. However, with the end of the Cold War, the use of colorful paints was relaxed for Navy squadron commanders and CAG aircraft from the late 1980s.
This 1/72-scale model kit from Platz reproduces the coloring of the 1970s VF-2 aircraft in 1988. This paint was also used on the later updated F-14D, and is now carried over to the F/A-18F after the model change. Place your order today!
