We're back from the 57th All Japan Model & Hobby Show with a big helping of announcements for you! This year's event was held September 30 to October 1 at Tokyo Big Sight, and there were plenty of prizes in store from Bandai, Aoshima, Kotobukiya, Hasegawa and other favorites! Be sure to check out the new announcements below, along with our video coverage of the event!

Bandai

The next Perfect Grade kit is finally here, and it's the glorious Gundam Exia! Bandai's display featured the kit with its LED unit in and fully lit, showing off its completed form, as well as just the black inner frame. This amazing kit will be ready to build this December!

Bandai also surprised us with kits of the Gipsy Avenger and Bracer Phoenix from "Pacific Rim"! These prototypes had no release information yet, so we hope to have news on them soon!

Next up was Bandai's Figure-Rise Mechanics series. These kits typically focus on spacecrafts and other vehicles, so it was a real treat to see them take on Doraemon and Dorami from "Doraemon," as well as Arale-chan from Dr. Slump!

Max Factory

Max Factory brought their gigantatic minimum factory VF-1 Super Strike Gerwalk Valkyrie, which was incredible in person, posed mid-air and towering over the table! They also added a new kit to their Dougram series, the 1/72 Soltic H404U Mackerel!

Max Factory announced a special collaboration with Kotobukiya at the show, and will be bringing the Alice Gear Aigis characters out in figma form soon! Also on the way from their popular minimum factory kit series is Minori with a Honda Diesel Tractor F90, and a huge lineup of characters from Kemono Friends!

Hasegawa

We got to see Hasegawa's first ever Civic sports model RS release, the Honda Civic RS(SB-1) 3-Door Hatchback! RS stands for "Road Sailing," and this sporty little beauty that debuted in 1974 can now be yours to build in an entirely new 1/24 scale mold.

Hasegawa never forgets their sci-fi builders, and they had a new treat for fans of the "Macross" series with the VF‐31C Siegfried Mirage Custom Unit from "Macross Delta," featuring newly molded parts compared to their previous VF-31 releases!

Hasegawa expanded their 1/450 scale ship series with the Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer. Featuring a new mold, this beautiful kit will allow you to enjoy all of the fine details of the Hyuga thanks to its large scale!

Also hitting the pavement soon from Hasegawa are new kits of the Suzuki GT380 B in 1/12 scale, and the Hitachi Construction Combined Road Roller ZC50C-5 in 1/35 scale!

Aoshima

Godzilla X Mechagodzilla Type 3 Kiryuu

Aoshima unveiled a surprise that has kaiju fans roaring with approval: a non-scale plastic kit of the Type 3 Kiryuu, from the 2002 film "Godzilla X Mechagodzilla"! A release date isn't yet known, but this snap-fit kit is planned to be molded in color. A feature on "Building the Ultimate Type 3 Kiryuu" is in the works for Hobby Japan magazine, so preorders should start soon--stay tuned!

Attendees were also treated to a peek at two Persona snap-fit plastic kits in development. Aigis from Persona 3 is planned to be generously jointed--and there's also some weaponry in the works to put those joints to good use! From Persona 5 comes 25cm-tall Arsene, graced with gloriously detailed wings. Watch for both next year!

Girl meets Gerwalk, and the results are an eyeful for Macross fans! Revealed in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Macross, Aoshima's new Variable Fighter Girls series of plastic kits is planned to launch in 2018 with this VF-31. We'll know more soon!

Another intriguing revelation among Aoshima's character kits was this 1/24 Police Spinner from the iconic '80s anime "Silent Moebius." No release date yet, but we'll be watching!

Fine Molds

The A Type of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat is getting a 1/72 scale release from Fine Molds! This long-awaited release comes with decals for the US Navy 84th Fighting Squadron (VF-84) "Jolly Rogers", plus an exciting second set of decals for the United States Navy Fighter Squadron 111 (VF-111), also known as the "Sundowners"! In addition, a set of air-to-air missiles from current American military planes such as the AIM-54A/C Phoenix and the AIM-7F/M/P Sparrow was also released.

In 1/35th scale, the first commercialised version of the IJA Type 89 Medium Tank I-Go Kou was released! Fine Molds have taken care to replicate the medium tank's details with careful historical accuracy, and have included etching parts for the muffler covers, as well as new decals.

From Fine Molds' "Ultra Precision Plastic Parts - Nano Aviation" series comes the MG15 7.92mm Machine Gun (IJN Type 1/IJA Type 98) in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Used by both Germany and Japan during WWII, it's sure to be a useful addition to many modellers' collections!

Pit-Road

Pit-Road brought their 1/700 scale kit of IJN Battleship Yamato (Final Ver.), which features all new molding! The kit recreates the ship as it was seen during its final battle, with the lower port holes closed so that it wouldn't sink. Pit-Road made use of currently-available drawings and materials on the Yamato to make the kit as accurate as possible, and we were really impressed with the model on display at the show!

Also from Pit-Road's 1/700 scale lineup at the show was their beautiful USS Battleship BB-43 Tennessee 1944 featuring new parts, a re-release of the USS Aircraft Carrier CVN-73 George Washington 2008, and a JSDF Aircraft Set (X-2 x 4/F-35A x 4/F-35B x 4 : C-2 x 2) so you can add some extra detail to your 1/700 scale ships!

Pit-Road also introduced a stunning resin kit of the JMSDF Destroyer DD-119 Asahi (2nd) in 1/350 scale that's not to be missed!

Platz

The long-awaited 1/35 Centurion A41 from "Girls und Panzer: der Film" was on display at Platz' booth! Based on AFV Club's kit with a newly molded upper body, it's slated to roll into stock late this year. And be sure to check out their finished set of 1/35-scale Anglerfish Team members!

In addition, a new 1/72 double-seater MiG-15 UTI Soviet Air Force was on display, with decals for three versions. Also at the show was a two-piece set of the Douglas A-26 Invader attack bomber in 1/144 scale, as well as a two-piece set of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's RF-4E Phantom II reconnaissance aircraft in the same scale.

Tamiya

The sleek and beautifully detailed Mercedes-AMG GT3 was on display at Tamiya's booth! Based on a commercially available sports car, the GT3 is now a big contender in the world of racing, and it makes for one incredible kit.

In the 1/48 scale lineup, Tamiya presented the U.S. Main Battle Tank M1A2 Abrams, which will be 20cm long when completed and features accurate detailing of the tanks elecrtronic parts. Also from their military kit series was a German Pkw.K1 Kubelwagen Type 82 (Africa Corps/Marshal Rommel) at a big 1/16 scale!

The Mad Laser will be joining Tamiya's popular Mini 4WD line this October, and was also on display at the booth. Featuring an impressive aerodynamic design, this MA chassis is sure to race ahead of the competition! And check out Tamiya's amazingly detailed 1/6 Kawasaki Z1300 Engine!

Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya had a new kit on the way for all you gamers and lovers of mecha! Coming this December is a new suit from "Super Robot Wars," the imposing Raftclans Aulun.

They've also added a number of exciting new entries to their popular HEXA-GEAR series, with the Demolition Brute, Scarecrow, and much more! The kits shown at the event were still in gray prototype form, so we can't wait to see them in full color!

We also saw two unique new kits from the Megami Device series, the Witch and the Magical Girl!

Wave

Wave hit things off with the 1/35 scale Votoms Blood Sucker ST Ver., from the Votoms OVA "The Last Red Shoulder!" This kit has been designed in collaboration with Votoms Setting Producer Koichi Inoue, so great care has been taken to reproduce specific shapes and details with the highest accuracy!

Fans of the Ma.K series will be happy to see Wave's new displays of the S.A.F.S.Mk.III Type R Rapoon, a reconnaissance type Rapoon, along with the P.K.A. ausf N1 Neeze!

The Macross: VF-4 Lightning III in 1/72 scale was also on display! The VF-4 is the successor model of the VF-1, and with its sophisticated design this is definitely a kit worth waiting for! This particular kit displays the VF-4 in fighter form, and features snap-fit construction.

When it comes to ship models, Wave also had fans covered with a 1/350 scale kit of the INJ Destroyer Fuyutsuki 1945. This kit accurately recreates the characteristic shape of the Fuyutsuki, and is based on the already-released kit of the Akizuki. The precision used in the creation of this kit is sure to please!

Doyusha

From Doyusha, we were excited to see their 1/700 scale kit of the US Navy Missouri BB-63 and 1/72 scale F/A-18 F Super Hornet! Also at the show was an impressive 1/20 scale R/C of a mini forklift!

Airfix

Airfix flew in with two new kits in 1/48th scale, the Supermarine Walrus Mk.I and the P-51D Mustang! The Supermarine Walrus Mk.I was especially remarkable in person with its unique design and is sure to make an interesting build!

Also at their booth was the 1/72 Messerschmitt Me262A-1a, which was presented fully colored with all of its markings for us to behold!

Revell

Revell treated fans to a unique kit with the shiny red Porsche Junior 108 Tractor in 1/24 scale! Also on the way from their 1/25 scale lineup are the 70 Dodge Charger R/T and the 76 Ford Gran Torino!

Star Wars New Series TIE Advanced by Takara Tomy

We found plenty of unexpected highlights from other manufacturers at the Hobby Show! First to catch our eye was Takara Tomy's Star Wars New Series TIE Advanced! They also announced that the Millennium Falcon would be the second release in this lineup, which we can't wait to see.

Azone is sure to please Frame Arms Girls fans with their release of the Frame Arms Girl with Charm Tyrfing SP! We look forward to seeing more of just how many battle-ready poses she can take on with her impressive included weaponry!

Moving over to auto, Ebbro introduced a 1/24 scale Citroen H Crepe Mobile with Figure. This is a unique and fun looking kit, which transforms the distinctive corrugated iron-clad appearance of the Citroen H into a cute crepe truck with a retro feel! The kit comes with three figures so you can stage a sweet scene.

Finally, TigerModel showed us some new military models, including the 1/35 Scale ERC-90 F4 Sagaie, a French armoured all-terrain vehicle mostly used by the French Army in its bases in Africa. It will come in both gas engine and diesel engine types.
