This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.

The Hayasui was completed as one of the Kazahaya-class fleet oilers.  After a lack of reconnaissance planes was identified as a contributing factor to the defeat of the IJN at the Battle of Midway, aviations facilities were added to the Hayasui for accompanying the carrier task force.  The IJN added the function of food supply ship to the Hayasui to improve the carrier task force's endurance follwoing their experience at the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

In August 1944, the Hayasui departed Imari Bay for Singapore in convoy HI-71.  On the 19th of the same month, 80 miles northwest of Cape Bolinaro, Luzon, the Redfish, Bluefish and Spadefish attacked the Hayasui and she was hit by the torpedoes fired.
