The Citroen Traction Avant was in production from 1934 to 1957, with some 760,000 units being produced. It was the first large-scale mass-produced front-wheel drive automobile made, and its name in French means "front-wheel drive," or more literally "front traction." Coupled with its other technical innovations such as a light arc-welded monocoque frame and an advanced suspension system, the Traction Avant was quite speedy and definitely ahead of its time. Heller's massive (60cm long!) all-injection kit of this historic vehicle is also massively complex; the parts count stands at 1054 pieces, with many workable features of the real car also being workable in the model. One drawback to this complexity coupled with the size and material of the kit (injection styrene) is that many movable or stress-loaded parts simply can't handle the forces being applied to them...they either bend or break. These load-bearing parts (primarily suspension and steering components) would best be reinforced or replaced with brass rod or other stronger materials. But with the inherent complexity of this kit, such modifications shouldn't pose any problems to modelers who are already willing to dive in and tackle this project anyway. The reward of course would be a huge and spectacularly detailed masterpiece of this famous and historically important automobile. Take the Citroen plunge today!
