Description
This is an injection-plastic ship model kit.
Also known as K-278 Komsomolets, the Project 685 Plavnik ("fin") was the only example of this class of submarine, built to test technologies for fourth-generation Soviet nuclear-powered subs. Its NATO reporting name was "Mike-class," and it achieved a record depth of 1,020 meters in August of 1984. This submarine sank in 1989 when a fire broke out on board while it was submerged; although most of the crew were able to abandon ship, 42 of them died, most of them from drowning in the freezing waters of the sea near Norway while they waited for rescue.
This crisply cast kit includes decals and a fine fret of photo-etched parts.
